The art detectives return to take on a particularly complicated case, delving into the world of artworks created by internationally renowned painter, Mark Rothko – a strange, nameless place that only remotely resembles our world.
Cracks have appeared in the detectives’ friendship, yet the teenagers feel compelled to reunite nonetheless and embark on a quest for a classmate who has gone missing. Has the girl been abducted, disappeared in mysterious circumstances or has some horrendous crime been committed? The team of detectives have a hunch about where she might be found…
Putting their own lives at risk, Button, Theo and dachshund Comma travel beyond Mark Rothko’s paintings to a place where they must get to grips with a totally new, unfamiliar order of things in the unknown world. Along with Mela and Holly, two extraordinary companions they meet in this weird place, the detectives face Never-Before-Felt-Emotions, Never-Before-Heard-Of-Thoughts and Never-Before-Experienced-Sensations – all of which are so unprecedented that they don’t even have a name. In addition to their most daring trip ever, venturing behind the scenes of the painting - a journey which will alter forever the young detectives’ outlook on the world - the protagonists face another important challenge; that of saving their friendship.
